The Group Tax Associate will assist with multi-jurisdictional tax matters, including indirect tax (VAT, GST) and withholding tax (WHT), supporting the business with compliance, planning, and risk management. The role will involve working closely with the finance team, external advisors, and various departments within the company to ensure the group meets its tax obligations while optimizing tax efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
Address day-to-day tax queries from various departments.
Research and provide advice on cross-jurisdictional tax matters, including corporate, indirect, and withholding tax issues.
- Indirect Taxes and Withholding Tax:
Analyze and monitor the group’s exposure to indirect taxes (e.g., VAT, GST) and WHT across jurisdictions.
Ensure correct treatment of VAT/GST on transactions and assist in managing WHT obligations.
- Cross-Jurisdictional Tax Coordination:
Provide guidance on tax compliance across different countries, ensuring alignment with local regulations.
Collaborate with external tax advisors where needed to resolve complex tax issues.
- Tax Compliance and Filing:
Assist with the preparation and review of tax filings, including VAT returns, WHT documentation, and other tax-related reports.
Track and maintain compliance deadlines, ensuring timely filings in all relevant jurisdictions.
Contribute to the group’s tax planning strategies by identifying opportunities to minimize tax liabilities, while considering indirect taxes and WHT implications.
Support the business in tax audits and manage the preparation of necessary documentation.
- Risk Management and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records and documentation for all tax positions.
Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations that impact the group, providing updates and suggesting actions to ensure compliance.
Required Skills and Experience:
2-4 years of experience in corporate tax, with exposure to indirect tax and withholding tax in a multi-jurisdictional context. Experience in international or cross-border tax is a plus.
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
Part-qualified or qualified in a professional tax/accounting qualification (e.g., CTA, ACCA, ACA, ATT) is preferred but not essential.
Solid understanding of indirect tax (VAT, GST) and withholding tax.
Familiarity with corporate tax compliance and reporting.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent research skills for addressing tax issues in multiple jurisdictions.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex tax matters to non-tax professionals.
Highly organized, with an ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
